Korean military officers enhance national image with excellence

Korea’s active military officers who have attained good grades in training programs in the U.S. have become the talk of the town. According to the army on Sunday, Maj. Kim Gook-joo has recently obtained his Ph.D. in civil engineering with straight As (4.0 out of 4.0) from Florida State University.

Since 2012 when Maj. Kim went to the U.S. to study, he has been awarded the top prize as a representative of the College of Engineering and received the citation from the university president for four consecutive years, upgrading Korea’s national status to a higher level. On top of that, 10 out of 17 papers that he has contributed appeared the Science Citation Index (SCI) journals. “When I return to Korea, I want to contribute to developing military facilities as a civil engineer who is good at both theory and practice,” said Maj. Kim who has also received professional engineer's license.

Maj. Kim Gwang-deok received the prize for his excellence at a graduation ceremony of the Joint Forces Staff College last month. The prize is given to an American and a foreign officer who have achieved the best records at the 11-week comprehensive eval‎uation of training program. Maj. Kim ranked second out of 44 entire trainees.

Having attained good records in U.S. civil military operation program last month, Maj. Kim Geun-jae awarded Army Commendation Medal from U.S. Army Special Warfare School, according to the army.
