A cable program titled "Deep-dive into Him and Her" once aired an episode of "When college sweethearts break up." The punchline was the point when the pros of hanging out at the same campus turned into cons after the separation. Indeed, the two will be faced with very awkward situations as they will come across each other so many times. However, this will not be the case for those who found their life-time partner at the campus.

One of those lucky ones was Kim Jeong-sook of the class of 1978, who majored vocal music at Kyung Hee University. Kim fell in love with a year-senior law student whom she met at a blind date set up by her friend who called the guy "as handsome as Alain Delon." Her life with him for the next seven years were colored with ups and downs, taking care of the far-left boyfriend who was drafted into forced military service and then hit the books to pass the bar examination. Kim must have been blinded by love, as her greatest fear was "breaking up with him" than "rejected by her parents" until they tied the knot in 1981. Her "Alain Delon" lookalike boyfriend is Moon Jae-in, the former leader of The Democratic Party who is currently heading the polls for the Presidential candidate.

In the upcoming presidential election soon to be held in the season of roses, two other men also met their love of their loves - former leader of the People's Party Ahn Cheol-soo and South Chungcheong Governor Ahn Hee-jung. The former party leader met his then one-year junior Kim Mi-kyung at a university club while both were studying at the medical school at Seoul National University, and married in 1988. When her husband continuously made several career changes from a doctor to an entrepreneur to politician, Kim always stood by her husband. Ahn also rooted for his wife when she headed to the U.S. to study law with relatively younger peers. Kim still expresses her gratitude to Ahn, saying, "I was able to study further in my 40s thanks to my husband."

Min Joo-won and Ahn Hee-jung are a couple of same age who both entered Korea University in 1983. Ahn who fell in love with a freshman sitting across him at the library married Min in 1989. Ahn has been never shy away from displaying his deep affection for her, posting a parody photo with his wife and leaving a comment from the recent Korean hit drama "Goblin" on his Instagram account. Be it warm, gentle, or sweet; a common factor can be found regardless of how they loved each other. The couples are all comrades showing strong bonds. Throughout the three decades of sharing joys and sorrows, the ladies turned from young lovers to strong supporters for presidential candidacy. Koreans may expect the first-ever college sweetheart as their First Lady.
