Apple is launching a red version of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones to commemorate its partnership with fighting AIDS.

“Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s line-up of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch,” Apple chief executive Tim Cook says. This is the first time in its history that the U.S. tech giant is introducing an iPhone series in red.

(RED) was founded in 2006 by singer Bono and activist Bobby Shriver. The organization has raised more than 465 million U.S. dollars in fund to support the fight against AIDS, and Apple has donated more than 130 million dollars.

Electronics industry insiders are paying attention to Apple’s unusual move to introduce a special edition in March, given that the company used to unveil new products in September. Apple is unveiling the new edition just one week ahead of Samsung Electronics’ introduction of the flagship "Galaxy S8."

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition will come in 128 gigabytes and 256 gigabyte models. Order can be placed at online and offline stores worldwide from Friday.
