Slandering never stopped between the two oldest U.S. presidential candidates even at dawn when everyone was asleep. As negative criticisms heightened after the first TV debate, 69-year-old Democrat Hillary Clinton and 70-year-old Republican Donald Trump were engaged in a tweet battle at the early dawn last weekend. Fox News said that the two candidates concentrated on slandering each other during the sleepless night.

It was Trump who fired the first. At 5:15 a.m. on Friday, he tweeted “Wow, Crooked Hillary was duped and used by my worst Miss U. Hillary floated her as an 'angel' without checking her past, which is terrible!” He added that Hillary was deceived by Machado. His tweets on Friday were a response to Clinton’s charge in the first debate that he called 1996 Miss Universe winner Alicia Machado “Miss Piggy”

Trump raised suspicions that “Did Crooked Hillary help disgusting (check out sex tape and past) Alicia M become a U.S. citizen so she could use her in the debate?” His slandering on the Twitter went on until 5:30 a.m. Trump also criticized major media outlets including CNN that “Remember, don’t believe ‘sources said’ by the VERY dishonest media. IF they don’t name the sources, the sources don’t exist.”

Clinton started to tweet back at dawn on Saturday. She “tweetstormed” five tweets for 10 minutes from 3:20 a.m., when Trump fired at her a day ago. At first, Hillary promoted one of her presidential pledges – “AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America” program – and then went straight ahead to clash with Trump’s criticism. She fired “What kind of a man stays up all night to smear a woman with lies and conspiracy?” and refuted that Machado who stood up bravely against Trump’s attacks deserves admiration.

The U.S. media commented that the unexpected Twitter war between the two candidates also served as a disadvantage to Trump who gave his first round to Clinton. A U.S. political website The Hill pointed out that the Republican Party is begging Trump to move away from the Miss Universe controversy and attack on Hillary’s weak points.
