Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin had an elbow surgery, meaning an official end to this season for him. “Ryu had an arthroscopic surgery that clears out damaged tissue from his left elbow," the team said on Thursday. "He is expected to be ready for the 2017 season.” The surgery was performed by team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache who also performed his shoulder surgery in May last year. Ryu came back in July this year after a year of rehabilitation and ended this season, losing a game with an 11.57 ERA in 4⅔ innings.

After making it back to the Major League, Ryu experienced pain in his elbow and went back on the disabled list. Though he expressed his will to return to the mound while pitching in a simulated game on Sept. 21, he could not pitch for the Dodgers this season. Even if he returns successfully like his colleague, Alex Wood who had a similar operation in July and has returned to pitch in two weeks, it remains to be seen whether Ryu can be back on the mound next season.
