Batteries for electric vehicles have been developed by Korean researchers. The batteries will provide extended mileage of another 100 kilometers to the current 200 kilometers.

"We developed a new cathode material for secondary battery and succeeded in increasing battery capacity by 45 percent," said a research team led by Professor Cho Jae-pil of energy and chemical engineering at UNIST on Tuesday.

The team succeeded in expanding capacity by developing graphite-silicon substance instead of using graphite electrode of existing batteries. The new electrode was made by inputting silicon particles at the size of 20 nanometers between the graphite molecule.

The new battery is faster by more than 30 percent in terms of charging. The research results have been posted on Nature Energy's online edition on Tuesday.
