“Throughout his career, Trump has left behind a well-documented record of bankruptcies, thousands of lawsuits, angry shareholders and contractors who feel cheated, and disillusioned customers who feel ripped off. Trump says he wants to run the nation like he's run his business. God help us.”

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg delivered a stinging rebuke of U.S. Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.

As a billionaire businessman who founded Bloomberg News, served as New York mayor from 2002 to 2013, opposes gun control and has pro-business values, he is a politician who is more likely to support the Republican Party just in consideration of his profile and political leaning. Although he is an independent politician now, he was a GOP member during the five years of his term as New York mayor.

The gist of Bloomberg’s message is that even a billionaire businessman like him opposes Trump. Alluding to Trump’s emphasis on the fact that he is from New York, Bloomberg said, “I'm a New Yorker. And I know a con when I see one. The richest thing about Donald Trump is his hypocrisy.”

Regarding Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party nominee, Bloomberg noted, “Now, I know Hillary Clinton is not flawless; no candidate is. But she is the right choice -- and the responsible choice -- in this election…To me, this election is not a choice between a Democrat and a Republican. It’s a choice about who is better to lead our country right now.”

In an unusual move, the Democratic Party placed Bloomberg’s speech just before the primetime speeches by Senator Tim Kaine, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, and U.S. President Barack Obama. The placement seems to be aimed at wooing moderate voters.
