FINA or the International Swimming Federation and FISA or the international rowing federation on Tuesday have imposed ban on seven Russian swimmers and three rowers from participating in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

In addition to four athletes with a history of doping violation, FINA also excluded three swimmers who were mentioned in the ‘Maclaren report,’ which revealed state-sponsored doping practice by Russia, from the list of athletes eligible to participate in this year’s Olympics. The seven swimmers also included Yuliya Efimova, a silver medalist at the 2012 London Olympics.

However, the two organizations did not ban participation of Russian athletes other than those swimmers and rowers.

The World Archery Federation also approved participation of three Russian athletes who acquired berths for participation in the Rio event.
