S Cable & Systems has acquired quality certification from Canadian Standards Association, an international standards organization, for a marine and ship cable that endures at 70 degrees below zero, the world's first product.

The existing cables had endured at temperature 65 degrees below zero, but LS Cable & Systems has developed a 50 degree level cable 10 years ago providing them to Russia and elsewhere.

Demand for cables for extreme conditions areas is increasing along with increasing polar region explorations and energy development. Demand for state of art cable technologies is also rising. LS's latest cable can send currents stably on temperatures at the 70 degrees below zero level and doesn't crack against external shocks and while bending.

LS's cable will be mainly used in ice-breaking tankers and drilling facilities for delivering communication signals and electricity to various devices and equipment. "Though the shipbuilding and marine industry is in recession, polar regions development projects are increasing, and thus demand for cables that endure extremely low temperatures will increase," said Kim Dong-wook, technology development division head of LS Cable & Systems.

Besides ultra-high pressure and underwater cables, LS Cable & Systems plans to increase revenue by developing various special cables for environment-friendly projects, railway, mining and construction.
