Chang-dong, a representative commuter area in Seoul, is expecting a comprehensive culture place. Seoul announced on Thursday that “Platform Changdong 61” where visitors can enjoy music, performances, cooking classes, fashion, photos and more will open on Friday.

Platform Changdong 61 is located at a three-story container building at the transfer parking lot in front of Gate 1 of Changdong Subway Station (total ground area of 2,547 m²). Under the general supervision of Professor Lee Dong-yeon from Korea National University of Arts, guitarist Shin Dae-cheol, fashion model Han Hye-jin and photographer Cho Se-hyun will be in charge of directing their own professional field for program planning and operation for the newly-opening cultural venue.

Inside the venue are spaces for music, lifestyle (foods, fashion and photo) and community gathering where different programs will be offered. Monthly show of rock, electronic and hip-hop music will be performed at "Red Box," one of the containers buildings. At the space for lifestyle, visitors will be offered with opportunities to learn photograph techniques, cooking recipes, styling know-how and more.

The community section will house a center for urban restoration where a variety of programs will be developed for local residents to take part in and learn. Those who wish to attend performances and lectures should make prior application. More details such as tuition are available at http://platform61.kr.

The Seoul city government expects Platform Changdong 61 to be a boom-up project for the upcoming “Program of Creating a New Central Business District in Chang-dong and Sanggye,” which is slated to begin next year. Seoul Arena, a theater of 20,000 seats, a specified industrial complex and a comprehensive transfer center will be constructed at 380,000 m²-site of Changdong Garage and the Dobong Driver’s License Test Center.
