General Motors Korea has introduced the "All New Malibu" mid-size sedan on Wednesday. The All New Malibu is ninth-generation full-change model of the Malibu, which originally made debut in 1964. The vehicle has a wheelbase that is 93 millimeters longer, and measures 60 millimeters longer than the previous model, while it is 130 kilograms lighter thanks to ultrahigh-tension steel.

The new vehicle comes in two models equipped with 1.5-liter and 2-liter gasoline turbo engines, respectively. The sedan is priced at 23.1 million won (20,100 U.S. dollars) to 31.8 million won (27,700 dollars) depending on options.

The competition is fierce in the Korean mid-size sedan market. Renault Samsung has sold 6,751 units of its midsize SM6 sedan in a month after its debut, threatening to beat over the top-selling Sonata (7,053) of Hyundai Motor.

“The all-new 2016 Malibu has been recreated in all aspects ranging from exterior to interior, design, chassis, and to the engines,” said GM Korea CEO James Kim. “It will be a game changer in the market.”

GM Korea also plans to introduce a hybrid version of the All New Malibu at the 2016 Busan International Motor Show in June.
