Ji So-yun, a household name in South Korean female football, has become a leading player of Chelsea Ladies in British Women’s Super League.

The Chelsea Ladies announced on its website Tuesday that it extended a two-year contract with the 27-year-old midfielder. Ji left Inac Kobe Leonessa in January 2014 for Chelsea Ladies, being paid at the highest level in the team’s history. With the extension of contract, Ji will be playing for Chelsea until 2020.

The Chelsea Ladies were apparently eager to renew Ji’s contract as she is a key player of the team. Ji led her team win the FA Cup this year. The Chelsea Ladies recorded a double after securing the Women’s Super League (WSL) title with 13 wins and five ties with Ji scoring the tying and tie-breaking goals in the final match. Ji So-yun scored a total of 12 goals in 29 matches this season, including six goals in the regular league.

Ji has helped her team reaching its first-ever Champions League semi-finals this year. Thanks to the stellar performance, Ji joined the six-man shortlist for the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Women’s Player of the Year award and also made the Best 11 list.

“I’m happy to stay with the team for two more years,” she said. ”My teammates and the staff have been so nice to me and the team has given me many opportunities.”
