Seoul citizens spend 1 hour and 36 minutes for commuting

The amount of time people who have jobs in Seoul to commute is estimated to total 1 hour and 30 minutes. The congestion of roads in Seoul turned out to be become even more severe during the three years between 2014 and 2016.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the “National Traffic Research Result” on Wednesday that proved the above. This was a result of analyzing big data such as citizens’ navigation and use record of public transportation card.

According to this research, the city that takes the most amount of time to commute within the country was Seoul. As of 2016, the amount of time people in Seoul spent to get to work was 41.8 minutes and back to home, 54.6 minutes. In other words, people spent 96.4 minutes every day to commute.

Roads tend to become even more congested in big cities such as Seoul and Busan. The ratio of congested roads in Seoul increased every year from 19.5 percent in 2014 to 21.5 percent in 2015 and 22.8 percent in 2016.
