Actor Verne Troyer who played Mini-Me in the Hollywood films Austin Power died Saturday (local time). He was 49.

“It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today,” read a statement posted to his Facebook. Although the statement did not give a cause of death, “Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much.” The post also said, “Depression and suicide are very serious issues” and implied the possibility of suicide.

Troyer, from Michigan, the United States, suffered from cartilage-hair hypoplasia which resulted in him being only 81cm tall. Having debuted in 1994, he found fame playing Mini-Me, a clone of the villain Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers movies. His other notable roles include Griphook the Goblin, safeguarding the bank in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Ston (2001).
