A tomb that belonged to the chief of Apdokguk has been found in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan City, North Gyeongsang Province. Apdokguk is one of the minor countries from the Jinhan era, which ruled the areas of Gyeongsan before subjugated to Silla in the second century.

“Six wooden coffin tombs circa first century were found during an excavation work inside the housing land development site in Hayang-eup of Gyeongsan City,” announced the Seongrim Cultural Properties Institute on Thursday.

One of the tomb sites had a collection of bronze fans, bronze daggers, steel swords, bronze mirrors, bronze horses, fans and muzzles. In particular, the remains of a body presumed to belong to an adult man have also been found. Unconventionally, a total of three bronze fans were found, and the excavation team presumes that two were held in each of the hands of the man, with the other placed on the belly.

The latest findings are considered as important evidence that the early forces of Apdokguk ruled the Hayang areas as well as the Imdang-dong site in Gyeongsan City, which is located 10 kilometers away from the excavation site.
