British cyclist and adventurer Mark Beaumont broke the world record for cycling around the world for 79 days, reported U.K. media Guardian on Tuesday. The last record was set at 123 days by speed skating player Andrew Nicholson of New Zealand in 2015.

Beaumont began on July 2 in Paris and toured a total of 29,000 kilometers around Europe, Russia, Mongolia, China, Australia and Japan for 78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes. He slept an average of four hours a day.

Inspired by the book "Around the World in 80 Days" by French science fiction author Jules Verne, Beaumont challenged cycling around the world within 80 days. “When I reached Arc de Triomphe in Paris, I could see that the impossible was possible and redefined the limitations of tolerance of sports," Beaumont recalled his travel saying, "It was a challenge that was extremely difficult both in terms of body and mind."

His teeth were broken and elbow injured while falling down in Russia, and he was on the brink of giving up due to severe mental pain. After completion, he received two certificates by the Guinness World Records. One was on world cycling and the other for a world record of the longest distance in a month through cycling.
