Sales of Orion Choco Pie in China are showing recovery after being hit by the growing anti-Korean sentiment in China.

Orion announced on Tuesday that sales of Choco Pie in July sold via its Chinese branch increased by 16 percent year on year. When compared with the March results that retaliation from China was at its highest due to THAAD issue, the figure skyrocketed by 143 percent. According to the Korean confectionary brand, while sales of its flagship product fell in March and April, it soon picked up starting May. "Total sales of the Chinese branch in July also recovered to the 90 percent level year-on-year," an Orion representative said.

The biggest force behind the recovery was mainly thanks to the "Choco Pie Malcha flavor" released last year. The new product was launched to target the Chinese market where many Chinese enjoy tea. Experts estimate the authentic taste of Malcha grabbed the attention of many Chinese consumers.
