LG Electronics has named its new display for wide-screen V30 smartphone as “OLED FullVision” and registered its domestic trademark. The V30 will be unveiled in Germany on August 31. Earlier, LG has also registered trademark for its display logo, dubbed “FullVision,” for its bezel-less smartphone. The Korean electronics company plans to register trademarks of OLED FullVision in its major foreign markets including North America, Europe and Central and South America.

The V30 is LG’s first OLED smartphone with a bezel-less design. The previous smartphone, G6, had an LCD screen. LG has decided to register trademarks for a display logo of the company’s strategic smartphone as competition is getting fiercer with increasing number of global rivals adopting unique bezel-less designs. A bezel-free design makes the screen look even wider than its actual size. Samsung Electronics has also applied a bezel-free design on the Galaxy Note8 after LG released the G6. With a raft of high-end smartphones coming with new bezel-free designs, it has become a new standard for upcoming models in the smartphone market.

Besides LG, other electronics companies are branding their new bezel-less designs with new names as the design is deemed a leading trend in the fields of smartphone and television. LG is calling it “FullVision,” while Samsung and Chinese Huawei are naming their designs as “Infinity Display” and “Entire View,” respectively. After the rollout of the G6 and the Galaxy S8, most of the high-end smartphones are marketing bezel-less designs and the 18:9 or 18.5:9 displays.
